The Avett Brothers are a non-traditional bluegrass band that originated in Concord, North Carolina. The two brothers, Seth and Scott, formed the group after the breakup of the former rock band, Nemo, adding a third member, Bob Crawford. More recently, they have been joined by cellist Joe Kwon. The Avett Brothers combine old-time country, bluegrass, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk and ragtime to produce a sound described by the Washington Post as "post civil-war modern rock", or by other reviewers as "grungegrass".

Old Crow Medicine Show is a folk/country group from Nashville, Tennessee. Along with original songs, the band performs many pre-World War II blues and folk songs. The style of music they perform is sometimes called alt-country, but today more often referred to as Americana. Alice in Chains are a rock band which formed in 1987 in Seattle, Washington, United States. Drawing equally from the heavy riffing of metal and the gloomy strains of grunge, the band developed a bleak, nihilistic sound that balanced grinding metallic riffs with subtly textured acoustic numbers. They were hard enough for metal fans, yet their dark subject matter and punky attack placed them among the front ranks of the Seattle-based grunge bands. While this dichotomy helped the group soar to multi-platinum status with their second album, 1992’s Dirt, it also divided them.

Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears is a blues band from Austin, Texas influenced by Howlin’ Wolf and James Brown. Formed in 2006 and fronted by Black Joe Lewis, the rest of the band includes Zach Ernst, Bill Stevenson, Matthew Strmiska, Ian Varley, and the Hard Proof Honeybear Horns (Jason Frey, Derek Phelps, Joe Woullard.) After being signed by Lost Highway Records at SXSW they released their debut album Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is! in March of 2009.

Norma Jean is a metalcore/ mathcore band from Douglasville, Georgia, USA- a suburb of Atlanta. They were originally known as Luti-Kriss. They released two albums: an EP (titled 5ep) in 2000, and a full-length release, Throwing Myself on March 13, 2001. After the release of Throwing Myself, the band changed their name to Norma Jean to avoid confusion with rapper Ludacris. Their original vocalist, Josh Scogin, left the band right after the release of Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child and went on to start The Chariot.
